Blackhawks Fans are OK

TSDMike | May 28, 2009

I made a friendly bet with one of my blogger buddies last week that if the Red Wings beat the Blackhawks in NHL Western Conference finals that he’d have to display a mildly humiliating banner in a conspicuous place on the index page of his site.

Two nights ago, I whipped up a quick graphic and in a dick move sent it over to him early, even though the series wasn’t exactly over yet, as the Wings were only up three games to one in the best-of-seven series. Detroit didn’t clinch the series until late last night.

Well I just checked out his site and sure enough, he manned up and installed my banner on his blog – check out my artwork on his site, haroldmartin.net.

So Blackhawks fans are OK as far as I am concerned – well at least one of them is.

Carlos Zambrano Shows The Umps His ‘O-Face’

TSDMike | May 28, 2009

• With the Cubs leading the Pirates 2-1 in the seventh, Zambrano threw a wild pitch that got past catcher Geovany Soto(notes) and caused Pittsburgh’s Nyjer Morgan(notes) to break for home. Zambrano covered the plate, but Morgan snuck his left hand in to tie the score and umpire Mark Carlson called him safe. It was a great call, actually, but Zambrano disagreed and went berserk…

Congrats to the Orlando Magic

TSDMike | May 27, 2009

Congratulations are in order.

The Orlando Magic have done the unthinkable. They’ve pushed LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to the brink of elimination.

Watching this series unfold, I couldn’t tell if the current 3-1 stranglehold that the Magic enjoys is the result of a talented underdog believing that it can persevere, or a collosal collapse on the part of an overwhelming favorite.

I give all the credit in the world to Dwight Howard, Stan Van Gundy and the rest of the Magic personnel. They stood up to King James and his perceived destiny and didn’t blink.

NHL Conference Finals Preview

Red Wings. Blackhawks. Penguins. Hurricanes. The next two two weeks should be pretty exciting if you’re a hockey fan. Here are my predictions for the final four of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Ducks Hockey Fans in California: FAIL

TSDMike | May 14, 2009

The Ducks fought back from a 3-2 deficit to win game six and they’ve got a chance to pull two badass upsets in a row. And their fans don’t care.

Very Good Article on Chauncey Billups

TSDMike | May 12, 2009

There’s an amazing article on the life and NBA career of Chauncey Billups, point guard of the Denver Nuggets. It’s rather long, but a good read, especially if you’re into feel good stories about growth, family and redemption.

The Birth of a Legacy

TSDMike | May 11, 2009

Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

There’s a phenomenon occurring at this very moment that will close the door on the debate as to who the best player in the NBA is.

LeBron James is putting on a performance for the ages. There hasn’t been a clearer favorite to win the NBA title since the ‘95-’96 Chicago Bulls, who won a record 72 games that season.

Manny, A-Rod, Bonds… What Steroids Really Mean to Baseball

TSDMike | May 8, 2009

I almost didn’t write about this.

It seemed redundant. Didn’t we just go through this? Aren’t we still going through this? The Alex Rodriguez debacle has even totally played out yet and now we’re pounded with this: Manny Ramirez tests positive for steroids and receives the automatic 50 game suspension.

The sad thing is that I still haven’t decided how I feel about the A-rod thing. He juiced for a couple of seasons, had some inflated numbers while playing for a last place team, then quit taking performance enhancing drugs. His power numbers declined, but other than that, he’s still a helluva baseball player.

Man-Ram falls into the same category. Did steroids made him a better player? Do steroids make anyone a better player? I actually don’t think that they do. Steroids enhance performance. The key word is enhance. The ability to perform has to be there first.

Baseball Records that Hopefully Will be Broken Someday

TSDMike | May 6, 2009

My favorite baseball records are the ones that can’t be broken in a day – but aren’t ridiculously out of reach, either. They’re the ones that take a season or a lifetime of remarkable consistency to achieve.
